Atlantic Rowing Race 2009

I was pleased to be asked to photograph an ocean rowing boat that is being entered into the Atlantic Rowing Race 2009 http://www.atlanticrowingrace09.com/ as it was being loaded onto a trailer at Wood Vale Challenge based near Landrake Cornwall, for transportation to Poole for onward transit to the South Atlantic for the race to start on 6th December from La Gamera Canary Islands to Antigua. See also http://www.woodvale-challenge.com/

It was a challenge to get any images, as the boat was only taken out of the workshop at the last minute and I could only photograph it from 4pm onward, 45 minutes of fading light meant an iso speed of 1000 and eventually flash had to take over as the main lighting.

Website update

Today the website has had a few things added.
Six new images on the Landscape page http://www.alanpackerphotography.co.uk/landscapes.html

I have also added a Forum for any questions anyone has on photography.http://www.alanpackerphotography.co.uk/forum.html Please keep the queries to photographic subjects and keep any posts relative to these queries.
As this feature is new it is still being built upon, so don't worry if there does not seem to be a section for a specific question, just ask away.

Fireworks Championships 2009

This week I had the pleasure of viewing the championships from a boat for the second year running. It was a fantastic trip with beautiful weather, pick up and drop off from Saltash, front row seats and no traffic jams! Lovely to catch up with a few friends from Saltash too. Hope you enjoy looking at a couple of pictures from the first night.

Cargreen Country Fair

I was delighted to attend Cargreen's first arts and crafts fair this month in order to display my greeting cards and landscape prints, please see below for a couple of photographs.

The whole family had a good morning out, browsing local arts and crafts stalls and eating the delicious fried breakfasts (rumour has it they sold over 400). It was also a good opportunity to catch up with some old clients and meet new ones as well as getting to know other local artists. We're all looking forward to the next one!

If you'd like to have a look at my landscape pictures and purchase them in greeting card and print format please go to Westcountry Greeting Cards and Prints (click link). Select individual photographs to view purchasing options, easy payment and selection. Blank inside they are perfect as greeting cards, notelets and for framing.

Double the Fun

This week I've had the pleasure of photographing Phoebe and Ruby, 18 month old identical twins. They had lots of fun playing with balloons, building blocks, eating cake, ice lollies and blowing bubbles...one of the advantages of me bringing the studio to your house is that not only does everyone feel more at ease in familiar surroundings but it's easy to change clothes if they accidentally get dirty and we can include favourite toys as props...or even your pet if that's what you'd like!

In 90 minutes we got over 200 shots of the twins so there's plenty more to come but for a sneak preview see below.

The Mayor's Parlour

Saltash Town Coucil-Derek Holly will be passing the mayorship to Sue Hooper MBE this year and asked me to document this year's council members for prosperity. It's always an honour to be asked and I wish them all the best for the year ahead.
Luckily the weather held up for The Saltash May Fair on Saturday. The Alan Packer Photography stall was a success with many admiring the greeting cards and enquiring about wedding and portrait sessions.

Here are a few questions we had on the day along with our answers:

Where can I purchase more greeting cards when I run out?
- The website will shortly have a facility to buy any prints, greetings cards and book sessions. In the meantime please feel free to email for a pdf of products to order from.

How much do you charge for Wedding Photography in Devon and Cornwall?
- Anything from £150 to £2000, it's up to you whether you just want to pay for my time or add on extras such as albums. A small registry office wedding with 2 hours coverage will require less work than a wedding I attend for 8 hours and so the base price is charged accordingly. If you'd like to discuss your own budget please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll see what I can do. As I don't have the overheads which studios do you'll no doubt find me competitive.

How much would you charge for a 12" x 8" photograph of our baby (portrait prices)?
- I charge £25 to come to you and reprint prices are £12 for a 12" x 8" (yes, really!) but don't forget that with our baby packages you get free prints worth more than the actual package price of £50!! Baby and ChildPortrait Sessions

If there are any questions you might have to add please email or call any time, I'm always happy to help.

So, another successful May Fair, I look forward to next years when I'm hoping to have a new and improved display-watch this space!

We're keeping fingers crossed for a bright and sunny Bank Holiday weekend, not only because we all get an extra day off but it's the annual Saltash May Fair on Saturday!

Come see us at the stall to view examples of work, browse and buy prints or cards or just have a chat. If you mention this article we'll give you a free print!

Hopefully we'll see you there!

Baby Blue Eyes

See below 3 of the shots I captured of Eve last week. We had a 10 minute window to entertain her and get some shots before she decided enough was enough and it was time to go back to sleep. We had lots of fun getting some shots and are hoping to try again when she's a little older. For now though, see below.

Cawsand Wedding

Jo and Simon

Jo and Simon were married in Maker Church with the reception held at the Cawsand Bay Hotel. It was a lovely day with great spells of sunshine and enough cloud cover for some great pictures.

A lovely week for landscape photography

I spent a lovely day this week at a local beauty spot (private message me and I may tell you where it is!) The 2 pictures below are a before and after Photoshop, see what you think:

Bring out the best

These are the same two images except that by using layers,
I have managed to bring out more detail in the bottom of the train.

Monday 2 February 2009

These pictures were taken at a recent wedding at Polhawn Fort. Using Photoshop I've copiled a collage with one main background image and four different images of the bride and groom. This could be used in an album or mounted in a frame for the wall.

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog, I hope you enjoy it!
